Haute Olive Moves to New Location on Maple Ave.

Remember Haute Olive? We featured them here, where we showed you some great party outfit ideas and vintage shopping tips. Since then, Haute Olive has moved to a new location at 765 Maple Ave.  We stopped by their new store and found a slew of cute dresses and fun jewelry.

Haute Olive recently celebrated their 3-year anniversary in the Fashion District. The vintage and consignment boutique carries women's and men's clothing and accessories. They also have some children's shoes and accessories and a selection of plus-size apparel. At Haute Olive, you'll find everything from high-end and brand names to local/LA-based designers and rare finds.

Amara Wilson, owner of Haute Olive, personally curates about 90% of the items found in her store. She developed her eye for fashion while modeling in Paris, and constantly looks for unique, well-made pieces to add to her inventory.

One of our favorite pieces was a 70's floral dress (pictured above), perfect for a going-out night! We also loved the funky jewelry selection.

You can find local designers and artists at Haute Olive during Artwalk on the second
Thursday of every month!

Brazilian Dining at Wood Spoon

Wood Spoon has been in the Fashion District for almost six years now, but we never get tired of our favorite Brazilian spot. Chef/owner Natalia Pereira serves authentic street-style dishes from her native Brazil, made to order, meaning she doesn't start cooking until you tell her what you want to eat. Talk about fresh!

Wood Spoon offers a variety of appetizers and side dishes. House favorites include "Coxinha", beignets filled with shredded chicken and served with a spicy mayonnaise sauce, and the "Pastel Portuguese", dumplings stuffed with shrimp, coconut sauce, and Kibe made with bulgar wheat, mint, and ground beef. There's also Brazilian sausage and our personal favorite side dish - yam fries.

On the menu you'll find a variety of grilled plates with your choice of meet or veggies and a selection of sandwiches, salads, and paninis, but the absolute must-try is their famous "Brazilian Chicken Pot Pie". Their staple dish definitely won us over. Delish!

Also popular on the menu is the "Pork Burger" with roasted cabbage and onion, served on potato bread. It really is as big as it looks. Check out their full menu here.

Did you know the 4th largest event space in L.A. County is located in the Fashion District?

The Los Angeles Business Journal recently named the California Market Center as the fourth largest meeting facility in L.A. County, ranked by square footage of largest room available in “The List: L.A. County Meeting Facilities.” The California Market Center’s largest room is the 93,000 square-foot penthouse, which is typically used for fashion shows, trade shows and art exhibits. The California Market Center has a bigger event space than the Pasadena Convention Center, Shrine Auditorium and Expo Center, and the Queen Mary, and it’s available for private and special events!

Many of you may not know, but you can host a private event, have a film shoot, or host meetings and seminars in the Fashion District. Both the California Market Center and the Cooper Design Space have event space available, as does The Orpheum Theatre. Need help finding the right venue for your event? Give us a call at 213-488-1153!

Weekly Recap: New stores and merchandise at the Fashion District

A weekly recap of the week's top stories...

Pop-up jewelry vendor in Santee Alley

It's been a very busy week at the Fashion District. We've had new stores open up and summer styles have taken over the district. Check out the newest jewelry pop-up vendor in Santee Alley. They have tons of neon accented jewelry pieces and gorgeous gold, statement necklaces. In fact, neon seems to be have taken over the alley,  including the shoe stores. Bliss Shoe Boutique talked to us about summer's shoe trends and gave us a sneak peek at their newest styles.

You can check out some of Santee Alley's newest merchandise here.

We're also happy to report the LA Fashion District BID and many of the businesses in our district have been nominated for L.A. Downtown News' Best of Downtown. Don't forget to vote for us!

And for those of you who missed Unique LA's 4th Annual Spring Show at the California Market Center, here's some of our favorite booths.

Our favorites from Unique LA's 4th Annual Spring Show

Unique LA's 4th Annual Spring Show was held at the California Market Center this past weekend. The show featured everything from crafts and gourmet edibles to jewelry, clothing, and pet items. As always, it showcased local designers and lots of handmade goodies. We snapped a couple photos of our favorite booths.

Unicorn Crafts won us over with it's adorable collection of earrings, pendants, rings and buttons. Faheema (pictured above) designs all her pieces in Illustrator, then prints them onto shrinky dink paper, cuts out the designs and bakes them! Once they come out of the oven, she turns them into cute jewelry pieces.

Our favorite was the Earring in a Bottle "California Love".

Lizbeth Navarro Ceramics featured an assortment of beautiful, handcrafted ceramics repurposed as planters, jewelry holders and decorative art. The artist was at the booth to talk about her products and even had a Mother's Day special.

We'd love to have one of these jackelopes to hold our jewelry!

The Feathered Head had gorgeous fascinators, hats, and headbands. They specialize in one-of-a-kind, bridal headpieces and often incorporate vintage jewelry or millinery into their designs, and of course feathers.

We were amazed by the beautiful detailing on all the pieces.

Oh, Hello Friend is a collection of art and designs by Danni Hong. It features all sorts of knick-knacks and small jewelry pieces, perfect for goodie bags and all-occasion presents.

Wooden gift tags - the perfect "extra special" touch for any gift.

Stone & Honey is handcrafted in Portland. The collection is inspired by the beauty of nature and made from carefully selected rough gems and minerals in combination with brass, sterling silver, and gold.

We loved the "Single Crystal Points" necklaces.

Paula Eliott Jewelry uses vintage Victorian pieces to create necklaces, pendants, lockets, bracelets and earrings. On display at Unique LA were Victorian pocket knife necklaces and amazing crystal bracelets made out of vintage shoe buckles.
